Fatal Lights

Summer 1934. A soldier on leave in the Carnic Alps does not return. His body is found on a mountain path eleven days later. Tissue damage catastrophic — radiation levels incompatible with any known source, from a zone where there is no source.

The military closes the area; case closed before opened. Furio Ferretti recognizes the quality of the damage — he has seen it before at Vergiate, in a file that officially does not exist. Eleanor Hawthorne arrives with a Geiger-Müller counter and a question forming before she has finished the briefing.

They follow the trail into the Carnic Alps where soldiers vanish, witnesses go silent, and the mountain itself seems to be the source of a contamination that follows no physical law.
